The whole Ayahuasca thing has created an little industry and there’s a few bad guys. In South America too. I’ve never experienced it as I went to a place in the Netherlands which was amazing. It wasn’t a traditional outside thing but was amazing in other ways.
The problem in South America and SE Asia is they’re places with low value currency attracting westerners with high value currency to an industry that’s not regulated, so you’re going to get some charlatans amongst the good guys. Then you end up on drugs and vulnerable with them. There are amazing places too, it just means you have to do so much research. I don’t have any first hand experience of it but there’s plenty to read online.
Plus there’s possible legality issues. The Philippines is ridiculously strict on drugs and it’s only technically legal there because the law doesn’t specifically mention it. If someone decided to interpret it differently the man who knows what could happen. I’ll be sticking to the Netherlands if I go back to it!
