This is great. Dental pain is the worst!
I used a very different method once, when I was young and very stupid. We were students and playing the most ridiculous game of allowing matches to burn down into your knuckles. Whoever blew the matches out last was the winner.
I used the more meditative technique of focussing entirely on the pain rather than away from it. It worked, which made me even more stupid. Apparently the skin was bubbling. I still have the scars. I was young and very foolish then but I’ll never forget that the technique worked!
What it doesn’t work for though is unexpected intermittent pain like dental pain or a twinging muscle. But if you ever want to put a flame out on yourself…
I love your point 4 the best. If you know why you’re doing something it almost always makes stuff more bearable.
Great stuff as always Jordan!
